Many Vizio TVs come with a variety of HDMI and USB inputs as a standard feature. If you have a Vizio with a USB port, you may be able to connect it to your computer via a USB cable. Before doing so, you need to consider what you want to accomplish.
Service Port vs Multimedia
Even if your Vizio TV has a USB port on the back, that does not necessarily mean that it was made for you to connect to it. Some Vizio TVs have USB ports solely for the purpose of providing an easy way to service them. If your television malfunctions and you must have it repaired, the technician can connect to the TV through the USB port. If you have this type of TV, you will not be able to connect it to your computer through the USB connection.

Warranty Issues
If your Vizio TV has a USB port that is strictly designed for service, you have to consider the warranty that comes with your TV. When you connect a USB device to the service port, it can void your warranty, according to the terms and conditions of your Vizio TV documentation. Because of this, you should think twice about randomly sticking a USB stick or cable into the USB port on the back of your TV.
Multimedia Content
If you have one of the newer Vizio TV models that has a USB port for the purpose of providing multimedia content, then you do have the option of connecting it to your computer. To do so, you will need a USB cable that connects to both the computer and the TV. Once you connect the two, you will be able to access files like music, movies and pictures that are stored on your computer's hard drive.
Wireless Connection
In some cases, you may not want to have to connect your computer to your Vizio TV with a cable. In this situation, you can use a wireless connector program that makes it possible to avoid the cables. You simply plug in a USB dongle to the TV and to the computer that you want to connect it to. Then the USB dongle sends and receives a wireless signal between the two devices to share multimedia content.
