Calling and texting friends and family in the United Kingdom are pretty simple, almost as easy as calling in the United States where you just input the area code and phone number of the person you are trying to contact.
Step 1
Determine if you want to call or text the person you are trying to contact in the United Kingdom. There are three parts to an international call: the International Direct Dialing (IDD) code, the country code and the phone number.

Step 2
Check that you have the proper phone number. Look up the IDD code. The IDD is the number used when you want to start an international call. For the United States it is 011. You must always dial the IDD of the country you are in prior to any call or text to another country.
Step 3
Look up the U.K. country code. In order to text and call outside of the United States or to any country you need the correct country code of the country you want to call or text. The U.K. country code is 44.
Step 4
Input the IDD first followed by the country code of the country you are trying to reach and then the phone number of the person in the United Kingdom you are calling or texting.
If you are phoning, press the talk or call button. You will hear a short ringing tone until the person you are calling answers the phone.
Step 5
Type your message and send it if you want to text. Your message indicator on your mobile phone will notify you that your message has been sent.
