Netgear Wi-Fi routers have a channel option, so you can change the channel used by your wireless devices. Typically, channels one and six are used on a Wi-Fi router. If you have several other surrounding network routers using the same channel, it causes interference with the Wi-FI connection and wireless users experience poor reception. You can manually change the channel on the Netgear router to improve wireless performance.
Step 1
Open a Web browser on your desktop. Type the IP address for your router in the navigation text box. The default IP address configured on the router from Netgear is "192.168.1.1."

Step 3
Click the "Wireless Settings" link in the left panel. A window opens with a list of wireless options. Select a new channel in the "Channel" drop-down box.
Step 4
Click the "Apply" button. The router does a soft reboot, and the new channel takes effect in the router settings.
