A 2.1 system consists of left and right speakers, and a powered subwoofer.

A 2.1 speaker system consists of left and right stereo speakers connected to a powered subwoofer for bass. Commonly used for computer audio applications, the compact size of a 2.1 system also makes it a good choice for adding audio to a TV set in a small space where a rack of stereo components and floor speakers might be impractical. A 2.1 system also connects in a matter of seconds, so the entire speaker package can be disconnected and moved to another room, if desired.
