Microsoft Excel is a widely used spreadsheet program that comes as part of Microsoft Office. In Excel, users can enter formulas that have the program automatically calculate values for them. One formula is called "Convert" and allows users to convert values from one unit to another. For example, if you needed to convert millimeters to inches in Excel, you would use the Convert function.
Step 1
Determine the number of millimeters you want to convert to inches. If the number is already in another cell, note that cell location. For example, if you want to convert the value in cell A5 to inches, you would use "A5" instead of a number.

Step 2
Double-click the cell that you want the converted value to appear in so you can type in the formula.
Step 3
Type "=convert(X, "mm","in")" in the desired cell, where X is either the number you want to convert or the cell containing the number. For example, if you wanted to convert the value in A5, you would enter "=convert(A5,"mm", "in")." If you wanted to convert 30, you would enter "=convert(30,"mm", "in")." The result will appear when you hit "Enter."
