How to Edit the File Properties of MP4 Files

MP4, or MPEG-4 Part 14, is a common media format used to digital video files and streaming audio. You can add or delete basic files properties--such as "album", "artist", or "subtitles"--using your computer's operating system (specifically, Windows Explorer). Using a third-party program (such as File Property Edit), you can edit more advanced settings such as the "File Creation Date."

Step 1

Find the file you want to edit.

Right-click the file and select "Properties."

Step 3

Click the "Details" tab. Enter the property information that you want filled in.

Step 4

Click "Apply" to apply the changes. Click "OK" to confirm the changes.

File Property Edit

Step 1

Download the File Property Edit software from the "Resources" section below. Save the file to your desktop. Double-click the "EXE" to begin the installation.

Step 2

Click "Next" Click "I Accept" to accept the license agreement. Click "Next" to install the program to your default hard drive. Click "Install" to complete the installation.

Step 3

Place a check next to "Run File Property Edit" and click "Finish."

Step 4

Click the "Add Files" button. Select the files you want to edit.

Step 5

Click the tabs ("File Attributes," "Change File Time," etc.) that correspond with the properties that you want to edit. Click the "Apply Changes" button to confirm the changes.
