Whether you transfer a video file from a digital camcorder to your computer or you download a video from the Web, every video has a specific resolution. If the video is too small for your viewing needs, however, you can enlarge the video by increasing its resolution. To increase the resolution, use a third-party video editor or conversion program. Depending on the program you choose, you may have the option to select a custom height and width for your video.
Using Windows Live Movie Maker

Download and install Windows Live Movie Maker. Open the program when the installation process is complete.

Open Windows Live Movie Maker. Click the "Add Videos and Photos" button and select the video you want to enlarge. The video will be imported to the program.

Click the "Movie Maker" tab and highlight the "Save Movie" option. Scroll through the list of formatting settings and select the "Create Custom Setting" option.
Step 4
Enter a name for the custom video setting, and then enter your preferred video resolution in the Video Settings field, such as 1280 x 720. Click the "Save" button. You will be returned to the main Windows Live Movie Maker screen.
Step 5
Click the "Movie Maker" tab, highlight the "Save Movie" option and select the custom video setting you creating in Step 4. The Save Movie dialogue box will appear on the screen.
Step 6
Enter a new file name, select a destination folder and click the "Save" button. The video will be enlarged to your custom video resolution setting and saved to your computer.
Using Koyote Soft Free Video Converter
Step 1
Download and install Free Video Converter.
Step 2
Open the video conversion program when the installation process is complete.
Step 3
Click the "Add Files" button in upper left corner of the toolbar. Navigate through your folders and select your preferred video file.
Step 4
Select a video format, such as MP4, AVI or WMV, from the Output Format menu.
Step 5
Click the "Size" drop-down menu and select a new frame size for your video, such as 960 x 720, 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080.
Step 6
Click the "Output Path" tab and select a destination folder for the edited video file.
Step 7
Click the "Convert Video" button. The file will convert your video, increase the resolution and save the file to your chosen output folder.
Using Video Enhancer
Step 1
Download and install Video Enhancer. As of time of publication, the program costs approximately $40. The company, however, offers a free 30-day trial.
Step 2
Open Video Enhancer.
Step 3
Click the "Browse" button in the Input Video File section and select the video you want to import and edit.
Step 4
Increase the resolution of the video by entering a custom frame size in the Width and Height fields.
Step 5
Click the "Start" button.
