The code list for your universal remote is the most important thing to have in order to program your remote to another device, such as your TV, DVD player or VCR. You should look through your papers to see whether you kept any of the original documents that came with your remote, then check the Internet or you can contact the remote's manufacturer.
Step 1
Look through the User's Manual for your remote control to find the code section. The code list on some remotes is not included in the manual but instead is printed on an unattached paper insert that comes with the manual.

Step 2
Go to an website listing code, such as the Remote Code List (See References). Search the list for the brand of your remote to be taken to a page with your remote's code list. Once you have the list, enter the programming codes on your remote and try the remote out to make sure the code works. If the remote does not respond, try the next code on the list until you find the code that works.
Step 3
Call the manufacture of your remote and ask whether it can tell you the codes you need. If you want the entire codes list, have it sent to you. Make sure to tell the manufacturer the correct model of your remote. The model number is located on the inside of the battery latch.
