Cisco's Explorer HD8300 digital video recorder can pause and rewind live TV. It also can record and play back TV programs so you can always see your favorite shows, even if you're out while they are on. If you experience problems with the DVR's playback of recorded shows, performing a reset might fix the problem.

Step 1
Press and hold the "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" buttons on the front of the unit. The buttons are located on the right -and side of the display screen, on the left and right of the four buttons that are clustered together.

Press the "Info" button. It's located to the left of the display screen, the second highest of the four buttons arranged diagonally. It is directly underneath the "Guide" button.
Step 3
Release the buttons when the HD8300 begins to reboot. If nothing happens, repeat the process and ensure that the "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" buttons remain held as you press the "Info" button.
Hard Reset
Step 1
Switch the HD8300 off by pressing the "Power" button. This is located in the top left hand corner of the unit, and is oval-shaped. Wait 5 seconds with the unit powered down, but still plugged in.
Step 2
Unplug the HD8300 and wait another 5 seconds. The HD8300 still functions while the plug is in, so the plug must be pulled out for a full reboot.
Step 3
Press and hold the "Power" button. Plug the HD8300's plug back into the wall socket while continuing to hold the button.
Step 4
Wait 15 seconds, or until "Boot" is displayed on the HD8300's display screen. This indicates that the unit had been rebooted.
