Nintendo 64 emulators give PC gamers the ability to play N64 games from their computers. One of the drawbacks is that you cannot use the N64 controller with the computer as it cannot be connected to any of the computer's input ports. One option you have to control the N64 games on your computer is to use a Sony PS3 controller. The PS3 controller comes with a USB cord that connects the game pad to the computer, making it easy to sync with a Nintendo 64 emulator. The PS3 controller has 16 buttons, which is more than enough to sync the 15 N64 controller buttons.
Step 1
Connect the PS3 controller to your computer with the USB cord.

Start up the Nintendo 64 emulator and click onto the "Plug-in" option on the topline menu of the main window. Click "Input Settings" to open the controller options.
Step 3
Click the "Devices" tab near the middle of the controller window. On the right, click the button underneath "Device" and click the "PS3 Motioninjoy Controller." Click the "Controls" tab and a list of buttons that coincide with the N64 controls is displayed.
Step 4
Click the "Up" button underneath the "Digital Pad" heading and click the up button on the PS3 controller. You can now go "Up" when playing the N64 emulator using the up button on the PS3 controller. Continue mapping the directional buttons down, left and right.
Step 5
Click the "Start" button underneath the "Buttons" heading and press the start button on the PS3 controller. Click the "A" button and press the "X" button on the PS3 controller. Click the "B" button and press the "Square" button on the PS3.
Step 6
Click the "L-Trig" button and press the "L1" trigger on the PS3 controller. Click the "R-Trig" button and press the "R1" button on the PS3 controller. Click the "Z-Trig" button and press the "L2" button on the PS3 controller.
Step 7
Click the "Up" button underneath the "C Buttons" heading and press up on the right-analog stick on the PS3 controller. Continue to map the C-button directional keys down, left and right to the right-analog stick on the PS3 controller.
Step 8
Click the "Up" button underneath the "Analog Stick" heading and press up on the left-analog stick on the PS3 controller. Continue mapping the analog controls down, left and right to the left-analog stick on the PS3 controller.
Step 9
Single-click the "Save" button on the top of the controller configuration window and the PS3 controller is now set up to use as an N64 controller with the N64 emulator.
