How to Untag Myself in a Comment on Instagram

You've opened Instagram and notice that you've been tagged in a photo or comment that you definitely don't want to be tagged in. Although Instagram is a public platform, it does give you some control over who can and cannot tag you in posts. Learning how to untag yourself on Instagram is simply a matter of knowing how to set your permissions.

When someone tags you on Instagram – whether in a photo or a comment – anyone who views that person's Instagram posts can see your username and click on your profile. This can obviously be a privacy concern for some as it puts your name out there to people whose attention and interest you may not want. You may also find yourself potentially being tagged in embarrassing photos that you don't want others to see or tagged in posts that you don't want to be included in.

The easiest way to prevent being unwillingly tagged in an Instagram photo or comment is to set tagging permissions. You can change your Instagram tagging permissions from Add Automatically or Add Manually. "Add Automatically" means that people can tag you without your permission and it will automatically show up on your Instagram profile. Change it to Add Manually so you have to approve tags before they go live on your profile. Tap "Settings," then "Photos of You," and then "Add Manually" to set this tagging permission.

Users mention other users on Instagram all the time, and if your profile is public, then your username can be mentioned by another person who may not even be a friend. The only way to remove an Instagram comment that you're tagged in is to either block the person who tagged you or ask him to remove the comment. Tap the user's name to view his profile and then tap "Message." Ask him to remove the comment. Tap the "Arrow" drop-down menu and select "Block" to block the user from tagging you in the future.
