MP3 audio files are highly compatible with audio programs on the Macintosh computer. There are a number of free audio editing programs you can use to create MP3 audio files from other audio formats. You can make an MP3 audio file on a Mac in a few minutes, and you do not need any knowledge of how the Mac works with audio file formats.
Step 1
Download the Mac version of a free audio editing program, such as Audacity (see the link in Resources). Open the program.

Step 2
Drag an audio file onto the icon of the audio editor in your dock on the left side or bottom of the computer screen. Wait for the file to load in the program.
Step 3
Go to "File" and select "Export as MP3" from the drop-down menu. Name the MP3 audio file you are about to make in the open column at the top of the window that appears. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the window to close the window.
Step 4
Wait as the audio editor program creates an MP3 audio file on the Mac's hard drive. Quit the program after the MP3 audio file has been saved.
