You just bought a new Sony television or perhaps you have owned one for a while, and you want to know how to lock certain channels and programs so your child cannot access them. Doing so can be frustrating if your knowledge of remote controls and television settings is not good. Here you will learn how to access the parental lock and use it.
Step 1
With your television on, press the "Menu" button on the remote control. It may also be labeled as "Home" on some remotes.

Step 2
Just above the "Menu" button is a circular button with four arrows pointing up, down, and to both sides. Use these buttons to move down the list of menu options until you see "Lock," which is accompanied by an image of a television with a lock in front of it.
Step 3
Use the up and down arrow keys to select "On" for parental control.
Step 4
If you haven't entered a password yet, the television will ask you to input one. Select a 4-digit password using the 0 to 9 number keys on the remote control. You will be asked to enter it twice to confirm your password choice.
Step 5
Use the up and down arrow keys to select a rating level to block. If you are unsure what level of television you would like to block programming from, visit TVGuidelines.org, which provides an in-depth guide to each rating. Once you have selected a rating level, your Sony TV will have a parental lock in place.
