One of the goals of your LinkedIN profile should be to make your page stand out from the crowd. One way you can do this is to add symbols to the various fields of your profile, including your name. When people search LinkedIn profiles, you will be listed by your name and adding symbols can call attention to your listing as the user scans down the page. LinkedIn does not provide easy support for adding such symbols, but you can add check marks, bullets or a number of other symbols by using Alt Codes.

Look up the Alt Code for the symbol you wish to add using a chart like the one found at alt-codes.net. Make note of the number related to your symbol. The closest symbol to a checkmark is the square root symbol, which uses the alt code 251.
