Resetting passwords regularly is sound security practice that can prevent unauthorized access to your private voicemail messages. System administrators and individual users can reset the voicemail password on Nortel phones. Although a wide range of Nortel phones are currently on the market, most phones are reset in the same way.
Personal Password Reset

Press the "Feature" button, and then dial "981" to access the options menu.

Press "8" for mailbox administration.
Step 3
Press "4" to change your password. When prompted, enter and then confirm the new password.
Adminstrator Password Reset
Step 1
Press the "Feature" button on the phone handset, and then dial "985." The voice mail extension number will appear on the phone's screen.
Step 2
Press the "9" key. Enter "73738767793" when prompted for a password.
Step 3
Press the "Yes" button when the system asks you if you want to reset the password. The system will release and restore the default password. You can then alter the default password to a new password.
Administrator Mailbox Password Reset
Step 1
Press the "Feature" key on the phone handset, and then dial "983."
Step 2
Enter your administrator password when the phone's screen displays "LOG." If you have not set a different administrator password, the password will change to the default password. Press "OK."
Step 3
Press the button under "MBOX" on the phone's display screen. Press the button under "Chng" on the phone's display screen.
Step 4
Type in the mailbox number for which you're trying to reset the password. "Reset password" should appear on the phone's display screen.
Step 5
Press the button under "Reset" on the phone's display screen. Push the release button. This resets the mailbox password to the default, which is typically "0000."
